About our founder, Emily Greenspan
Emily is a passionate educator who has been teaching and tutoring for over ten years. She is a proud graduate of Avodah’s Service Corps, a fellowship through which she began college counseling at a Brooklyn high school. Since then, she has been an instructor at Seizing Every Opportunity, a rigorous college preparatory program for high-achieving students. Emily is also a professor of college composition at Ashland University’s prison education program.
Emily holds an MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing from Ashland University, and she graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Wesleyan University (2016), where she obtained her BA in both Government and French with a Certificate in Civic Engagement. Emily holds a 200 hour yoga teacher training certification and is a trained peer coach; she draws on these experiences to offer mindfulness practices and compassionate guidance to students.
Outside of work and school, Emily is a SCUBA Divemaster and certified freediver who dabbles in underwater photography and writes about her maritime adventures. A third generation Holocaust survivor, Emily is also currently working on a book about her grandmother’s story.
